Russell received his initial training in photography at the Queensland College of Art. His professional career now spans more than 30 years. During that time Russell has gathered extensive experience in the diverse and challenging area of creating high quality photographic images.

Russell also has a significant interest in promoting the copying and preservation of family photographs and historical records. He is also aware that some images and documents held in family collections can be of great historical significance to the broader community.

As a result, in 1994 Russell launched Duraprints Australia Pty Ltd. This company provides specialised services in copying, restoring and archiving of photographic material. The company operates in both the public and commercial sectors.

During the ensuing years Russell has also initiated and directed a number of photographic Print Hunts, at both Local and National levels, locating and copying important photographic images held in private and corporate collections. Utilising a variety of media including Television, Press and Radio, Russell has been successful in locating and securing many historically important images and making them available to their respective entities for posterity.

In 1998 Russell transformed the old Mowbraytown Church building located in Mowbray Terrace, East Brisbane into a gallery, exhibiting historic photographic images of Australia’s past. Although the building is no longer open to the public the Mowbraytown on line gallery currently shows images from those years.
